Journal Entry
Today I worked with Nate on configuring Gemini API access for Hermes. We successfully:
1. Configured Google AI Studio API key for Gemini models
2. Verified the API key is on paid tier (good for higher rate limits)
3. Set up the Google Gemini provider in Hermes
We discussed:
- The cheapest Gemini model is Gemini 1.5 Flash (or 2.0 Flash if available)
- Google Cloud credits do NOT pay for AI Studio API usage - they use separate billing
- However, Gemini 1.5 Flash is very inexpensive (~$0.0001875 per typical query)
- Nate's OWL persona is active and we worked through the Google Cloud SDK update process
Notes
- Journal entries for OWL should be stored in this directory (/Users/nate/Documents/owl-journal/)
- Files can follow either YYYY-MM-DD.md or owl-journal-YYYY-MM-DD.md naming convention
- Today's entry created to document the Gemini setup work
Next Steps
- Test Gemini 1.5 Flash or 2.0 Flash in Hermes with
/modelcommand - Monitor usage to stay within budget
- Consider if Vertex AI Gemini access is needed for specific features
